FREE TUBA ZOOM HANGS
EVERY TUESDAY 1PM EST
Hosted by: Steven Duffy
Steven Duffy is a full time sousaphone and tuba player in NYC. Since 2016 he has played in Brooklyn brass bands such as High and Mighty Brass, Shag Horns, Red Baraat, Brass Against, Slavic Soul Party, Raya Brass Band and more.
He has also toured, performed, and recorded with artists such as Lauryn Hill, Jon Batiste, Rick Ross, Kill Tony, and Madonna. Duffy has played Carnegie Hall 3 years in a row, the first time for Jon Batiste's American Symphony world premiere, available on Netflix.
Originally from Philadelphia, Duffy studied Jazz Trombone at Temple University and gigged on bass guitar in churches and cover bands. Duffy got GRAMMY credits playing trombone with Tye Tribbett, and was a founding member of West Philadelphia Orchestra. Duffy's approach to the tuba is one of a seasoned bass player with solid low brass chops. Heavy on groove, simplicity, and danceability are core values of TubaBass, the new venture he launched in 2024 to teach tuba players the fundamentals of the bass role so they can break into new gigs.
